CHELMSFORD'S first dedicated drum store opens this Saturday, June 2, when idrums launches at 35-36 Viaduct Road, right next to the bus station.

Already established as one of the top online retailers for drummers, idrums will now have a presence in the city, aiming to be part of Chelmsford's burgeoning music scene.

Since launching in 2006, idrums has grown to become one of the top internet drum and percussion retailers and while the website remains a vital part of the business, the new premises in Chelmsford reflects changing patterns in customer behaviour according to managing director James Lewis of Great Dunmow.

"We've always prided ourselves on our ability to relate to customers and their needs," said James.

"And the more we spoke to people, the more we discovered that while they appreciated the simplicity of ordering online via idrums.co.uk, sometimes they wanted a more traditional shopping experience.

"By moving to Chelmsford, we now have a place where you can actually come in and see, feel and play the drums before you buy them and we're happy to sit down with you and work out what you really need."

The drum specialist will stock everything from beginner's kits to drums for professionals, aiming to cater for all needs.

With local drummer Alex Baker (Seven Summers, Degrees) managing the store, James sees it as vital to feel part of the local scene.

"It's a great time to be moving to Chelmsford. With city status, unique businesses and a great live music scene, there's a real buzz about the place."
