Shenfield runners-up

FOOTBALL: Shenfield AFC continued their pre-season games on Saturday, finishing runners-up in the annual AFC Barnston 11 a side tournament.

Hosts AFC Barnston and Tollesbury both from the Essex and Suffolk Border League and Writtle from the Olympian League were their opponents.

Manager Paul Bolton and assistant Ray Luck took a squad of 16 players for games losing against eventual winners Tollesbury but beating AFC Barnston 2-0 with game goals from Olly Hyde and Bill Texeria.

In the last game against Writtle two goals from Ben Raven and one from Alex Broadbridge gave them the runners-up spot.

Manager Danny Williams and assistant Dougie Greig made the short journey to UCB FC in Kelvedon with a further squad of 16 players and returned with a 5-1 win with goals from Ged Searles (2), Tony Ridge, Dan Corner and Andreas Petrou.
